A pale wooden cat tower standing in a bright room beside a plant, with a clear bowl hammock, a box house and a round top perch.
The same tower photographed in a living room next to a wooden shelf ladder, showing its full height against the wall.
Close view of the box house in the middle of the tower, with a cat shaped cut out in the side panel and a ramp leading up to it.
All three photographs are the supplier’s. We have not had this one in our hands. The room it is standing in is theirs, not ours, and we have not restaged it to look like somewhere nicer. What you can see of the joinery is what the joinery looks like.

Most cat trees are carpet on a post.

The reason it costs more

You have to live with it too.

A cat tree is one of the largest objects most people put in a living room, and the usual one is grey carpet wrapped around cardboard tube. It is bought in spite of how it looks.

This is plain wood with sisal where the claws go, which is the one place carpet actually earns its place. The scratching surface is the wearing part, so it is the part that is replaceable by hand with a few metres of sisal rope and an afternoon.

The carton is 530 × 431 × 230 mm for a tower nearly four feet tall, which tells you plainly that it arrives flat and you build it.

The tower seen from the side against a plain wall, showing the stacked platforms, the ramp and the sisal posts.
The full specification

Including the rows we are missing.

The supplier files this one under "Material: Others", which is not a material. Everything we cannot stand behind is marked.

The Tower · 48.8 in, wood and sisal
Height48.8 in, which is 124 cm
Base footprintNot published. The carton is 530 × 431 mm, so the base is smaller than that, but we will not turn a box size into a floor measurement and call it a spec
Frame materialTheir sheet says "Others". It is photographed as a pale timber or timber faced board, and we cannot tell solid wood from veneered board in a photograph, so we are not going to claim either
Scratching postsRope wrapped, and the supplier calls the rope sisal. We can see rope in the photographs and we cannot identify a fibre from a photograph, so we are repeating their word rather than confirming it
HouseEnclosed box with a cut out entry, mid height, with a ramp up to it
BowlClear, near the top. The supplier calls it an acrylic hammock
Weight limitNot published, and we have not tested it. The bowl in particular is the part we would want a figure for, and there is not one
AssemblyFlat packed, self assembly. Tools and time not stated
SuitsThe supplier says small to large cats. There is no weight figure behind that phrase

What it is not

Four reasons not to buy this.

If one of these is a dealbreaker, we would rather you found out here than after the box arrives.

You are building it.

Four feet of tower in a carton half a metre long means a flat pack and a set of instructions. If the thought of that is the reason you have put this off for a year, it will be the reason you put it off again.

We do not know what the bowl holds.

No published weight limit on any part of it, including the clear bowl near the top, which is the one we would most like a number for. We are not going to make one up. If you have a fifteen pound cat, that is your call to make unaided.

Sisal sheds and then it wears out.

That is sisal doing its job. You will sweep up fibres, and in a year or two of real use the posts will need rewrapping. Rope and an afternoon, but it is an afternoon.

It is one hundred and nineteen dollars.

You can buy a carpeted tower of about this height for half of it. That one will work. This costs more because of how it is made and how it looks in a room, and if neither of those matters to you then the cheap one is the right purchase and we mean that.

A hundred and nineteen dollars, and nobody has to apologise for it.

Pair it with the window perch
